Chris Imhoff - Perfomer, Educator, Clinician

Chris Imhoff is a professional trumpet player based out of Greenville, SC.  Before settling in Greenville, Chris spent 5 years on the road touring North America with various broadway shows, including The Wizard of Oz, A Chorus Line, Shrek, the Musical, and Catch Me If You Can.  He has performed with artists such as Frankie Valli, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Contours, Jens Lindemann, John Fedchock, Jiggs Whigham, Roland Vasquez, Jim Riggs, Vaughan Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra, Lisa Sherman, Frankie Previte, Bobby Caldwell,  Mannheim Steamroller, Celtic Woman, and Las Vegas tribute artists Donny Edwards (Elvis Presley) and Sharon Owens (Barbra Streisand).

Chris is the principal trumpet of the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra and Co-Principal Trumpet of the Brevard Philharmonic. He has performed with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Charleston (SC) Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Greenville (SC) Symphony Orchestra, Asheville Symphony Orchestra, Richmond (IN) Symphony, and South Carolina Philharmonic.  

 

He plays for musicals and other productions at Flat Rock Playhouse, the state theatre of North Carolina.  Chris regularly performs with several groups in the Greenville, SC and Western North Carolina areas, including Steel Toe Stiletto, The Greenville Jazz Collective, and several brass quintets. 

 

Chris serves as Instructor of Trumpet and Music Theory at the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University, where he also teaches music theory.  He received the 2020-2021 Excellence in Teaching Award for Part-Time Faculty at Anderson University.

Chris maintains a private trumpet studio, offering lessons at his home studio and online.  He has presented masterclasses at Auburn University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Middle Tennessee State University.  In 2012, Chris co-authored the article, "Have Trumpet, Will Travel: Life with a Touring Musical" for the Journal of the International Trumpet Guild.

Chris is a Powell Trumpets Performing Artist.  He holds a Bachelors degree in Trumpet Performance from Ohio University and a Masters degree in Trumpet Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.  His primary teachers include John Rommel, John Schlabach, and Wesley Woolard. Chris received additional instruction from Bill Adam, Larry Black, Vince DiMartino, and Anthony Plog.
